“Tassa drumming crossed the ocean with indentured labourers in the nineteenth century, travelling from North India to Trinidad, Guyana and the wider Caribbean. What began as Indian processional drumming became something new — an Indo-Caribbean tradition of its own, played at weddings, Hosay, Phagwah and every celebration in between.
